JUNKANOO -- HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Junkanoo is the New Years' Festival in the Bahamas, celebrating African heritage. It is so much fun! Here are some photos of the Green Turtle Cay's own Junkanoo parade. Each of the major inhabited islands hosts their own parades followed by hours of parties all night long. Nassau has the largest.

I can't fully express how **LOUD** this was! I will try to add on a video if I can. The deep bass of the steel drums, the cow bells, the shrill whistles, the singing was simply unforgettable.

Two hours of parade, through the entire settlement!

We watched with our friends the MacLean's at the start of the parade, then we followed the procession through the entire village! Katja slept through the whole thing, unbelievably with the loud cow bells and drums. We were dancing and having a great time. She woke up when we stopped dancing!

This was a truly memorable experience.
