Fernandina Beach, Florida

Fernandina is an interesting city. The official seal shows that his has existed under "eight flags" in it's history, including flags of Spain and the Confederacy, but also at times an independent land full of pirates.

We enjoyed our short stay here. There is a nice little town center, and we were surprised to see that the day we visited was the town's kick-off celebration for Christmas! They lit the downtown tree, and Santa visited the children, arriving by boat! Madelyn and Katja wanted to see Santa, and they were excited to get little stuffed animals as a present from Mrs. Claus.

The city is home to a large shrimping industry, and each May hosts a Shrimp Festival.
Also there is a huge container ship port and paper mill.

The city marina had excellent facilities. The fuel dock was wide and easily accessible. Roger, the attendant, even offered to drive us around to get groceries. The new boater's lounge had a flat screen TV and fresh coffee, and we used the laundry room as well. It would be a great place to come back to visit.

At the end of the day, Brian and the girls baked cookies in our oven!
